Story-telling has long been central to survival. Mycelial networks connect vast communities of plants by providing intimate communication systems between their roots. We tend to imagine underground murmurs of water shortage and nutrient scarcity, but I’m sure they’re sharing stories of gratitude for the sun and broken hearts too. For us, it is the web sewn by story-telling that connects us – to ourselves, each other, our history, our human roots or origins and the living world. Sharing the embodied human experience means that when one heart swells with emotion, we all do. The wave of emotion surges up into our throats, crests and breaks and washes over our tongues, wetting our lips with sacred sounds that drip in ceremony. Tales that taste of salt and sand and soil and wind and grit and nurture and touch and intimacy and love. Tales that weave the experience of being a child so tenderly mothered by the earth with that of being a wild woman shaped by the wind and sea.
